Great idea! If the staff here isn't to swamped to get it going (which they probably are), this would be great. With many more people here now than the first time around, this could produce a lot more good stuff.

Have people heard of Stockstock (http://www.stockstock.org)? It's a festival run out of Seattle, about to go into its third year. Entrants get 30-40 min of footage from Prelinger Archives on DV tape and then make a film out of it, everyone drawing from the same set of images. I had nothing to do with starting this and was in fact surprised to find out about it, but decided to fly up last summer and watch the winners, which were great. Kind of a powerful object lesson on how freedom can arise out of limitations. A Stockstock person stopped by two weeks ago to capture quite a bit of material off our master tapes, and got an excellent bunch of stuff.

None of this is to say that the IA shouldn't or won't run another contest. Let's address our cards and letters to info@archive.org and propose themes. Last time we did war and peace -- this time consumerism might be bubbling onto the agenda. Or fear and trembling -- you say it.
